Jul 30, 2007 · Depends on the .44 handgun. My old Desert Eagle would handle loads much heavier than I would fire out of my 3" barreled S&W. My Colt Anaconda, 6" barreled gun will also handle loads I won't shoot in the S&W. For plain maschocistic fun, a 300 grain round at 1200 feet per second, out of the 3" barrel, round butt, S&W would be my recommendation.

My twist is 1:38", and works well, but I also use this for some low velocity quiet work too and wish I had an extra barrel with a faster twist for that, even though I have no problem keeping 240gr cast stable out to at least 100yds with subsonic loads.
